The SCID Foundation is pleased to announce a request for research proposals for one one-time grant to be awarded in 2026. The Foundation, supported by an Educational Grant from ADMA Biologics, will provide up to $25,000 in funding for a one-year research project. Proposals should focus on one or more of the Areas of Interest outlined below. Only one grant will be awarded.

1. Proposals should be focused on practical, meaningful advances for Severe Combined Immune Deficiency. Proposed projects must address one or more of the areas of interest listed below. The examples provided under each area are intended solely as illustrations of the types of projects that may be considered and should not be interpreted as limiting the scope of eligible proposals. Applicants are encouraged to propose other approaches that align with the stated area of interest.
   
   • Early diagnosis
      Examples may include incorporating newborn screening with protocols for definitive diagnosis, including immunologic testing and genetic analyses.
   • Definitive treatment
     Examples may include comparing outcomes of current treatment approaches used at different centers or investigating gene-editing strategies such as CRISPR/Cas9 for genetic correction.
   • Long-term follow-up
     Examples may include evaluation of early immune senescence, declining engraftment, or improvements to adult transition, engagement, and follow-up care.
   • Reducing complications
     Examples may include earlier intervention for viral, fungal, or bacterial infections; optimization of antibiotic or higher-dose immunoglobulin treatment strategies; or evaluation and prevention of complications such as VOD or autoimmune cytopenias.
   • Improving care management for patients on long-term enzyme replacement therapy
     Examples may include evaluating complications associated with autoimmune disorders or novel approaches for the administration of enzyme replacement therapy.
   • Improving access to care
     Examples may include development of educational programs, awareness initiatives, or strategies to reduce barriers to diagnosis and treatment.
   • Optimizing management of patients prior to definitive therapy
     Examples may include optimizing the use of antibiotics, immunoglobulin replacement, and other supportive care measures before definitive treatment, or evaluating best practices for achieving a timely, accurate, and cost-effective diagnosis and treatment plan.
   • Reducing CMV-related mortality and morbidity while preserving the benefits of breastfeeding untransplanted or newly transplanted SCID patients 
     Examples may include determining maternal CMV risk factors, evaluating methods to suppress CMV transmission, or developing strategies that allow mothers of untransplanted or newly transplanted SCID infants to safely continue breastfeeding.
   • Other novel approaches for improving diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes

1. Eligible applicants should hold a Ph.D., M.D, or DO degree. Applicants should be full-time, permanent faculty members or postdoctoral fellows with a degree in a field related to SCID, including Immunology, Hematology, Cellular Biology, Medicine, Biochemistry, Translational Research, or a similar field, at an academic research institute within the United States or Canada.
2. The Grant Recipient/Primary Investigator must make proper acknowledgements in any posters, presentations, seminars, or journal publications resulting from the work supported by the SCID Foundation. Both the SCID Foundation and ADMA Biologics are to receive acknowledgements by stating “with support from the SCID Foundation, and an Educational Grant from ADMA Biologics”. The grant recipient will notify the SCID Foundation of all publications resulting from any work supported by the grant.
3. Permitted expenses include equipment and supplies specifically required to complete the project’s aims. In addition, the costs associated with the publication of the research are permitted. Institutional Overhead Payments (IOP) may be requested and should be identified in the budget. IOP shall not exceed 7.5%. IOP is to be paid out of the amount funded, not in addition to it. The cost to present data at a scientific meeting may be covered, but it must be identified in the budget.
4. General information regarding the recipient and the research project being funded may be posted on the SCID Foundation’s website or social media.
5. The Grant Recipient/Primary Investigator must submit a final written progress report, scientific summary, and a copy of a submitted work product (manuscript, abstract, poster presentation, etc.) to the SCID Foundation at the conclusion of the award period. The recipient may also be asked to present the results of their research at a future SCID Foundation closed board meeting or at a public webinar, if the research or information has been published or otherwise made public.
6. The project should be carried out within 1 year of initial funding.
7. Any funds not utilized will be returned to the SCID Foundation.

   1. Any additional documentation, if applicable including, but not limited to documentation that shows approval by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee for animal studies or by the Institutional Review Board for human studies from the grantee institution, if applicable
   2. Any additional comments, documentation, or approvals relevant to the project

1. Complete and relevant proposals will be reviewed by the SCID Foundation’s Research Grant Committee. Any conflicts of interest will be disclosed in the review minutes and will be reported on grant approvals.
2. Disbursement of funds will be made after the approval and execution of the Grant Agreement by the institution’s Grant Administrator.
